Recent artworks [update]

In art, Daily grind by Leslie Dean Brown / April 22, 2017 / Comments are closed

Block printing, lino cut, gouache, ink. Oh I see they’ve turned out rather blurry as they were taken with a phone camera.
I think I might try scanning these properly and uploading again soon… done! ✓

Today’s illustration [update]

Sometimes it’s really hard to keep motivated and stay inspired. :( So I started drawing this two hours ago, while watching Von Glitschka’s “Monster” workshop on Lynda.com…

I think I’ll have to force myself to do more drawing challenges + courses, otherwise nothing tends to emerge…

It turns out I don’t like the original. I suppose that’s what happens when you put work out there too soon. I suppose that’s what happens when you set yourself a one-hour time limit on something.

In the interest of displaying my highest quality illustrations, I have decided to blend this one with another “half-arsed” illustration. The beasts come from the planet “Mintaka”.

I think you’ll agree that it looks better now.

My graphic design + illustration credentials

In Daily grind by Leslie Dean Brown / March 21, 2017 / Comments are closed

I’ve always been curious about design. Eventually I had to know, so I began studying it.

What I’ve discovered is that design is not something that you can learn from one source.

And it’s not something you can learn overnight. It takes a lot of time.

It requires reading and disseminating a vast amount of information. It also comes with not just age but also experience.

Like most designers, I’m always learning. It really is a non-stop process.

Even after I finished my diploma of graphic design last year, I will keep on learning everything that I can about the design industry.

If you ever come to doubt a designer’s worth, you should know that for the amount they study, they actually get paid comparitively little.

Also, there’s keeping up with the latest design software.

I also have many books on design and illutration that I’m currently in the process of reviewing. More to follow!

I am also hoping to do an online illustration degree later in 2017 (I’d actually love to do it right now but unfortunately, I can’t afford to do it at the moment).
